QUESTION 1: Is it possible to submit projects that were submitted previously for an earlier DETAIL prize competition?
You can submit projects that you submitted in the past for a DETAIL Prize competition.
Question 2: Could developers participate? or it should be the projects architect who submits it?
There are two possibilties for developers to participate in DETAIL Prize:
Either you can submit your probject in cooperation with the architect to the architecture prize with its special prizes, or you can submit it yourself, as developer, to the category Company prize. For the Company Prize there is a participation fee, for the Architecture Prize there are no fees.
QUESTION 3: Is it possible to attend as a graduate the category for students even though I’m already a freelancer owning an office?
Unfortunately implemented projects which where not in line with your academic study can not be considered for the Student Prize.
Nonetheless please note in your submission that you have graduated recently.
QUESTION 4: Is an application necessary before submission date on 16.08.2010?
No, an application is not neccessary.
QUESTION 5: Is it allowed to submit a project which is not built yet or which is just a theoretical concept?
Not realized works can be submitted by recent graduates or students for the Special Prize Students. Apart from that all projects have to be completed after 1 January 2006.
QUESTION 6: Is there a registration or entry fee?
No, there is no fee requested for architects. Registration or entry fees are only charged for the Company Prize.
QUESTION 7: Does the project have to be submitted in one of the special prize categories, or is there a general submission category?
All projects are considered for the main prize, which does not focus on any single material. Furthermore, you can state as many special prize categories as you want. Nevertheless, please just submit your project once. We will consider the project in all stated special prize categories.
QUESTION 8: Is is possible to hand in two plans size DIN A1 instead of one plan size DIN A0?
No, unfortunatelly that is not possible. All presentation panels have to be the same size as they are also used for several exhibitions. DIN A0 standard paper-size means 841 x 1189 mm, which is about 33,1 x 46,81 inch.
QUESTION 9: Do participating architects have to be members of a chamber of architects?
Architects, interior designers and civil engineers who are entitled to use the professional title
architect/interior designer/civil engineer in their home countries may take part in the competition. In Germany, entitlement is determined on the basis of membership of a chamber of architects.
If there are no statutory regulations concerning the use of a professional title in a particular country, then entitlement will be determined on the basis of fulfilment of the professional requirements for architects/interior designers, i.e. possession of a degree, examination certificate or other certificate of professional competence."
Question 10: Is it possibile to include detailed drawings and photos on the CD?
Please do not include any further material on CD.The jury will only consider information presented on the AO presentation board and the explanatory text.
QUESTION 11: As a graduate, can I submit a work I authored during my studies under the Special Prize for Students category? If so, is it sufficient for me to include an enrollment certificate from the semester in which I authored the work?
Yes. Please submit works you created during your studies for the Special Prize for Students. A copy of the enrollment certificate is entirely sufficient.
QUESTION 12: Should the AO plan be submitted on a cardboard panel or is it enough to sent in on paper (rolled)?
Submission as a rolled paper plan is entirely sufficient.
QUESTION 13: Can the name of the office be provided on the panel?
Yes. Please provide the office and project name on the panel. Since it is an awards competition, the procedure is not anonymous.
QUESTION 14: Does the building process have to be completed before submission or is a draft plan sufficient?
The projects have to be realized in large part by the submission deadline on August 16. The current planning status is not sufficient.
QUESTION 15 COMPANY PRIZE: Can more than one project be submitted for the Company Prize, and if so, will a participation fee be charged for each project? What is the participation fee for the Company Prize?
You can submit up to three projects for the Company Prize. A participation fee of 1,000 euros will be charged for the first project, and a fee of 500 euros for each of the other two projects.
QUESTION 16: Is the signature of the owner sufficient or does he/she have to provide a declaration of consent?
A declaration of consent by the owner is not necessary; the signature is sufficient. The signature of the owner confirms the content of the documents submitted.
QUESTION 17: Who has to sign the declaration of content if it is a building with more than one owner?
If there is more than one owner, the signatures of all of the owners are required, or one owner has to be authorized to sign for all.
QUESTION 18: Is it possible to submit a project for more than one special prize category?
Yes, it is possible to submit a project for more than one special prize category.
QUESTION 19: Can the documents be sent to you in two separation packages (a roll with the project sheets in two copies and a letter with a CD and the DIN A4 documents)?
It is possible to send the documents separately to the Institute for International Architecture Documentation.
QUESTION 20: If a project is submitted for more than one special prize category, is it sufficient to send in the project sheet in two copies (as stated in the Prize Offering Procedure)?

QUESTION 21: Can projects also be submitted by civil engineers?
Civil engineers can also submit projects. See the Conditions of Participation on page 4 of the Prize Offering Procedure.
QUESTION 22: Can a temporary project that no longer exists be submitted for the Interior Design category?
A temporary project can be submitted if you have all of the required documents.
QUESTION 23: Does the special prize category for which the project is submitted have to be provided?
The special prize category for which the project is submitted has to be provided on the DETAIL Prize 2011 form.
QUESTION 24: We would like to enter the competition for the DETAIL Prize 2011, but the builder refuses to provide the building costs. Is it still possible to take part?
Information about the building costs is not imperative for participation.
QUESTION 25: Is it necessary to register for the DETAIL Prize in advance?
It is not necessary to register in advance. As soon as the Institute for International Architecture Documentation receives your complete documents, you are automatically eligible to take part in the DETAIL Prize 2011 competition.
QUESTION 26: Will the photos be used only by DETAIL staff or by other parties as well?
The photos of the projects will only be used in the context of the DETAIL Prize 2011. For all other usages the copyrights have to be re-requested.
QUESTION 27: We are endeavouring to have our submission delivered prior to 16th August deadline, but understand international courier services can be very unpredictable. As such, are we correct in assuming our entry will still be eligible if sent prior to the 16th of August and received at DETAIL offices after the deadline but before the 30th August 2010?
Yes, the deadline is August 16 th, but as the delivery from all over the world may take some time, we accept all projects that are delivered before August 30th. Participants may have to proof that the pacel was posted on August 16th or before.
QUESTION 28: How many projects can be submitted by one office?
Every participant can submit up to three projects.
QUESTION 29: Should the photographer and owner both sign the original declaration form, or is there any chance to attach their letter of agreement seperately?
You can add signatures on separate forms, of course. Just keep in mind that every person who is involved must give their permission. The chosen method is not important.
