
Over 700 projects from 63 countries have been submitted aiming to win the World Building of the Year Award 2008, of which 224 buildings have been shortlisted to compete against each other in the following 16 award categories: Civic, Culture, Energy waste & recycling, Health, Holiday, Home, Learning, Nature, New & old Office, Pleasure, Production, Religion & contemplation, Shopping, Sport, and Transportation. The judging panel, headed by Lord Foster, will be comprised of architects, clients and critics.
In addition to a gallery containing all entries to the Awards, other elements of the Festival will include an exhibition titled „Creativity, Capacity, Responsibility“, live presentations, a two day student competition to redesign a site in Barcelona, city tours, social events and a seminar programme including among others „Energy and sustainability“, various aspects of high-rise buildings and keynotes by Wolf D. Prix (Coop Himmelb(l)au) and Lord Norman Foster.
