Jean Nouvel: Lecture in Washington D.C. and Tour Signal for Paris

In an exclusive lecture within the “Spotlight on Design”- series, recently announced Pritzker Prize Laureate for 2008, Jean Nouvel presents his highly recognized contributions to the built environment of today. The lecture will take place on June 3, 2008 at 7 pm at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C.

Jean Nouvel is especially celebrated for his significant contributions to the built environment through the art of architecture. He has recently been announced to be this year’s Pritzker Prize Winner, the highest honor for architects to be awarded every year by the Hyatt Foundation.

Mr. Nouvel, who achieved international acclaim­ with the completion of his Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) in 1987 in Paris now has many projects in the United States, including the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Tour de Verre, a 75-story tower next door to MoMA in New York, and he recently announced plans for SunCal Tower, a high-rise condominium in Los Angeles.

Spotlight on Design is an ongoing lecture series featuring architects and designers of distinction from around the world. Since its inception in 1997, the series has presented many of the world's premier design voices in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and design, including Pritzker Prize Laureates Tadao Ando, James Corner, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Thom Mayne, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, I.M. Pei, and Glenn Murcutt, and Cesar Pelli. Spotlight on Design also highlights the innovative work of such firms as Asymptote, REX, and Snøhetta.

Jean Nouvel designs second tallest building for Paris 



Jean Nouvel has recently been declared winner in the highly prestigious competition for a new skyscraper in Parisian business quarter La Défense. The "Tour Signal", which will be located next to famous Grande Arche, will house a hotel, appartments, offices, shops as well as interior gardens within vast atriums. With his design for the mixed use tower, that is planned to be completed in 2015, the French architect won against world-renowned colleagues, such as Norman Foster and Daniel Libeskind.
