Iwan Baan has developed a 3D interactive photographic technique featuring finished buildings and scale models and has photographed a wide range of contemporary architecture. His work redefines the traditional relationship between the architectural photographer and his subject - the immovable building. Baan’s approach is borrowed more from reportage photography, which is transient, animated and fast-paced, resulting in a documentary quality of his architectural photographs. For the past three years he has documented the construction of OMA’s China Central Television building, as well as Herzog & de Meuron’s Olympic Stadium in Beijing. There will also be a roundtable discussion taking place on the 21st of November at 6pm in the AA lecture hall, in which photographers and related professionals will discuss contemporary trends, the status of architectural photography and the relationship between photographer and architect.
