Gateaway Project in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah

Snøhetta, Gateaway Project
Situated in the desert 150 km to the east of Dubai the norwegian architects Snøhetta has been comissioned to design the Gateaway Project in New Town Ras Al Khaimah. The urbanistic Masterplan for Ras Al Khaimah was under taken by OMA.

Construction Works will start in autumn 2008 and shall be finnished in 2011. The complex of buildings will contain a conference centre, exhibition centre,
hotels and retail space. All together it is expected to be 270 000m2 of build area.

The architectural expression is inspired by the surrounding desert and mountain
landscape. This concept provides for an infinite variety of naturally shaded, intimate and protected spaces, around which the multiple uses associated with the development are woven. From this structure there emerge remarkable areas of associated garden and landscape.
Within this complex, a 200 m high tower will accent the oasis. A 5 star plus hotel and a viewing plattform will be set in this tower which undertake a great view across the emirate.
