The “White City” of Tel Aviv, which was founded in 1909, holds the world’s largest grouping of buildings in the International Style, known as well as Bauhaus style. Around 4,000 buildings, which started to rise in the 1930s, were designed by Jewish architects who had studied in Europe and brought the new style to Tel Aviv.
Now this unique architectural collection is added by a Bauhaus Museum, which opened on April 25, 2008. Its first and current exhibition presents a selection of Bauhaus-designed furniture, graphics, lamps, glass and ceramic ware, that have been designed by famous Bauhaus artists such as Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe. The museum’s building itself dates back to the 1920s and was enlarged later by architect Shlomo Gepstein.
