New York: Lecture by Kengo Kuma

On Monday, November 3rd at 7 pm, Kengo Kuma, who established the Japanese architectural firm Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990, is holding a lecture on their current works in The Great Hall, the Cooper Union in New York.

By avoiding any particular architectural style or building material, Kengo Kuma aims „to create a certain type of place and a certain type of condition that can be experienced by the human body,“ arriving at “an architecture that utilizes everything, from traditional techniques to the most advanced technology.”
Kengo Kuma has received numerous awards from the Architectural Institute of Japan, as well as the International Architecture Awards for the Best New Global Design for the Chokkura Plaza and Shelter in 2007. Some of his projects include the Hiroshige Museum, the Suntory Museum of Art and the Yusuhara Town Hall, in Japan or the Great (Bamboo) Wall in China.

The lecture is organized by the Architectural League of New York and co-sponsored by the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture of the Cooper Union.
