Prizes for one of the largest competitions in the field of sustainable architecture are currently being awarded in several countries. Presented every three years, the Holcim Award in 2009 will go to projects from Morocco, Vietnam, China and the US.

Held on 4th September 2009 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Berlin, Germany, the sixth LEAF Awards honoured the architects designing the buildings and solutions that are setting the benchmark for the international architectural community.

The Beechwood National Memorial Centre in Ottawa, Ontario has recently received the Canadian Wood Council WoodWORKS Award for Best Project in the Institutional. The memorial centre is in located at Beechwood, the home of the national cemetery of the Canadian armed forces, and was created to accommodate the diverse faiths of an entire nation.

On Wednesday the 14th of January the DETAIL Prize was awarded in seven different categories during the DETAIL Gala at the Munich House of Artists. The main prize was won by FAM architectura y urbanismo from Madrid together with Schlaich Bergermann & Partner from Stuttgart for the M-11 Memorial in the centre of Madrid.

The DETAIL CREATIVE AWARD within the animago AWARD 2008 took place for the first time in this year. DETAIL is a sponsor of the Special Prize about 5,000 euros for the best submission.

At the end of September the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd. and The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies announced the winners of this year’s International Architecture Awards.

The RIBA has announced the shortlist of this year’s special awards, which are chosen from the RIBA Award winners. The awards will be presented at the Stirling Prize ceremony on 11 October in Liverpool.

The RIBA National and International Awards were announced on June 27th. The final shortlist for the £20,000 Stirling Prize which includes the RIBA National Awardees will be announced on July 17th, and the winner on October 11, 2008.

The Architect Tom Kundig from Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen, Seattle wins the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum Architecture Award for 2008. The Architecture Design Award, recognizing work in commercial, public or residential architecture.

The American Institute of Architects, AIA named its 10 recipients of the 2008 Young Architects Award. The list of names, along with short biographies were announced at the end of January 2008. The bestowal will take place at the AIA’s National Convention and Design Exposition in Boston this May.

The first DETAIL Award for Aesthetics and Construction Detail celebrates excellent construction detail within an outstanding overall design.

This is the fourth year that this international awards programme is being held: it aims to recognise and reward excellence in the architectural design of retail developments – in planning, under construction or debuted in 2007. DETAIL is hosting the Leisure and Hotels category.
