The Beechwood National Memorial Centre in Ottawa, Ontario has recently received the Canadian Wood Council WoodWORKS Award for Best Project in the Institutional. The memorial centre is in located at Beechwood, the home of the national cemetery of the Canadian armed forces, and was created to accommodate the diverse faiths of an entire nation.

The main prize was won by FAM architectura y urbanismo from Madrid together with Schlaich Bergermann & Partner from Stuttgart for the M-11 Memorial in the centre of Madrid.

The RIBA has announced the shortlist of this year’s special awards, which are chosen from the RIBA Award winners. The awards will be presented at the Stirling Prize ceremony on 11 October in Liverpool.
