The newly completed Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff – Wales’ national music and drama conservatoire – opened in October 2011 to a new intake of students.

In Hørsholm, north of Copenhagen, what may well be Denmark’s most environmentally friendly kindergarten has opened its doors. The triangular construction from the architects Christensen & Co. doesn’t just generate more energy than it needs, it also offers children optimal conditions with plenty of sunlight throughout.

The “AddYouCation” initiative from Herrn Architekten to build a senior high school for girls has been making good progress. In July 2011, 165 girls will complete their third term.

The building optimizes functional program at the same time as it focuses on aspects of light, orientation and the quality of the spaces generated. Retaining a telluric presence, the building brings a sense of order to the site and acts as a landmark among surrounding buildings and fields. Including video.

Harrow Road in west London is a rough area with a large immigrant population. Until recently, school was of no great attraction for young people in the neighbourhood. All that has now changed as a result of the Westminster Academy. The film accompanies three pupils walking through the school building.

Generation G refers to a generation which is concerned about the environment. This is a matter of course for the pupils at Stewart Middle School in Washington D.C – a sustainably designed building. Here, ecological awareness is not only taught but also practiced at the school.

“The World in One School” is the name of a travelling exhibition held between April 4th - 30th 2008, which gives insight to the history and influence of the Liverpool School of Architecture. The school opened in 1894 as the first architectural university in the UK and produced many illustrious architects since.

A dangerous disease is affecting the developing countries’ lifeline to a healthy development: unchecked and substandard schooling facilities creating an increasingly disparate future and unemployable youth. The erosion of this precious commodity has been detrimental to the many economies that continue to experience a decline in living standards.
