Enlarged building, reduced consumption

Originally, the architect‘s office, COBE, were only commissioned to renovate the theatre in Taastrup near Copenhagen in terms of energy consumption. But, as is well known, energy efficiency is defined as the quotient of benefits and expenditure. The architects, therefore, decided to endow the building with a new aesthetic appearance and to increase the amount of available space within it.

Leicester Performing Arts Centre by Rafael Viñoly Architects unveiled

The new Curve Theatre in the St. George’s Conservation Area in Leicester, is Rafael Viñoly Architects’ first completed project in the United Kingdom. By exposing the production, construction, and technical components of the theatre to the public, the design turns the traditional theatre configuration “inside out” and blurs the boundaries of performance and audience.

With the Agora Theatre, UN Studio have completed one of the first buildings within West 8’s new central plan for Lelystad. The architects have designed a multi-coloured light crystal with a complexly folded exterior envelope that incorporates the fly tower.
