Zaha Hadid in New York

Zaha Hadid has created a series of sculptural installations for a two-venue New York exhibition, opening on November 1st 2008. According to Kenny Schachter, the curator of the show, each installation offers elements of various architectural projects Hadid has been working on. They will be on display at Sonnabend Gallery and 168 10th Avenue until December 13th.

Zaha’s Fair Rug

New designs for worldwide architectural projects by Zaha Hadid reach us almost weekly. Now Zaha Hadid Architects have designed a rug for non-profit organization Arzu. The one-of-a kind rug is part of Arzu Rug’s "Hope by Designers” collection and comes in three sizes – all woven by Arzu women weavers in Afghanistan.

Museum Building on Tour

The Chanel Contemporary Art Container, unmistakably designed by Zaha Hadid, opened at the end of February 2008 in Hong Kong, the first venue among 8 cities. Following the idea of Chanel-designer Karl Lagerfeld, the temporary museum building “Mobile Art” includes works by renowned artists, asked to deal with famous Chanel-design.

Zaha Hadid wins design competitions in Michigan and Warsaw

Last week was marked by Zaha Hadid’s double win of the design competitions for the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in Michigan, and the Lilium Tower in Warsaw. Further, Zaha Hadid Architects has revealed designs for an extension to the Middle East Centre at St. Anthony’s College in Oxford.

Zaha Hadid Architecture + Design

Zaha Hadid won the Pritzer Prize in 2004, when she had only just completed her first substantial project, the Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati. Now she is busy working on projects that range from masterplans in Singapore and Istanbul, to an opera house in China, a museum in Rome, and a skyscraper in Dubai. Phaeno Science Centre, for which she was shortlisted for the 2006 RIBA Stirling Prize. Both have triumphantly demonstrated her ability to translate the essence of her virtuoso spatial invention in solid form.
