Housing Conversion in Dachau

documentation    p. 160 - 163
Architect Kindelbacher, Ludwig | Landau + Kindelbacher | Landau, Gerhard | Structural Engineer Seeberger Friedl + Partner |

Two flats situated on top of each other were joined together by cutting an opening in the reinforced concrete floor and inserting a staircase element. Two flights of the stairs are supported by steel plates in the risers that transmit the loads to a steel structure behind the wood panelling. The same structure also bears the loads from the stepped beams supporting the landings and the third flight of stairs. The staircase is thus acoustically separated from the party wall. The new kitchen can be divided from the dining room by sliding glass elements. The marble-lined sanitary area for guests is separated from the hall by a panel wall with concealed doors. In the guest WC, the lavatory basin and radiator are housed in a marble block.
