Bus Shelter in Paris

documentation    p. 342 - 343
Architect Jahn, Helmut | Sobek, Werner | Structural Engineer Werner Sobek Ingenieure GmbH |

This all-glass structure is a prototype for the planned serial production of the bus shelter. Although shelters with glazed sides are not uncommon nowadays, the load-bearing members and the roof are also of glass in this case. Different thicknesses of glass were used for the various elements. A double-layer column construction supports the raking cantilevered roof beams over which the roof glazing is laid. A slender stainless-steel drip is fixed along the rear edge of the sloping roof. All connections are based on a uniform system of point-fixings. The design of the bench for waiting passengers and the spotlights are also co-ordinated with these fixing elements, which lends the shelter a uniform appearance.
