Inserted in a gap less than 3 m wide, the structure of this infill block consists of concrete floor slabs cast into pockets cut in the existing party walls on each side. Large areas of glazing allow views through the entire building and create a surprising sense of space internally. The glass is fixed to storey-height metal frames let into the side walls and anchored to the floor slabs. The only visible metal members are the secondary angle supports framing the larch doors and windows. Great importance was attached to creating a flush glass surface. The continuous areas of glazing are adhesive fixed to the supporting structure with black silicone and secured with point fixings. On the street face, the glass has a pattern-printed surface.
