Industrial Training College in Bregenz

report    p. 1165
Author Baumschlager & Eberle | Schweitzer, Norbert |

Located on a site next to a busy railway line, the existing college was to be extended by further classrooms and training workshops. The latter were accommodated in five storeys stacked on top of each other and form a 128-metre-long tract that screens the rest of the site from noise. Access corridors were laid out on the side facing the railway and form a glazed projection with an outer skin of aluminium louvres. The rooms on the courtyard side are situated behind a façade comprising an outer layer of lapped sheets of single glazing and a double-glazed inner skin, with apron panels forming a thermal separation. The outer panes of glass are fixed in a slightly open position, so that the rooms can be ventilated via the intermediate cavity cells.
