The facades of the building consist of inter-locking U-section vertical glass strips with flush window elements. Green shimmering glass was used for the inner skin, blue glass for the outer skin. The translucent, iridescent effect thus created masks the strict geometry of the carcass structure, so that the spatial concept – a two-bay hall with a gallery level – becomes fully apparent only on the inside. Daylight also enters the building via lanterns on the roof and penetrates deep into the interior. Light falling on the exposed precast concrete elements accentuates their different surface textures. Prefabrication and a restricted range of materials enabled the building to be erected to a tight budget in a period of only two and a half months.
