Reopening of the Centre Pompidou
report p. 185Architect Bodin, J.F. | Renzo Piano Building Workshop |
Richard Rogers’ and Renzo Piano’s Centre Pompidou is open again. Together with Jean François Bodin, Piano has removed the signs of wear and tear caused by more than 150 million visitors and has cleared the interior to reveal the spatial and organizational clarity of the original concept. The Museum of Modern Art in particular has profited from the removal of its administration. An internal boulevard now allows a view through the entire building and provides access to exhibition areas on both sides. The separation of the partitions from the facade and soffit conveys a sense of spatial continuity and reveals the original purpose of the column-free layout. A bubble-like rooftop restaurant by Jakob + MacFarlane will be opened shortly.
