Summer House with Studio in Vejby

documentation    p. 420 - 425
Architect Henning Larsens Tegnestue | Structural Engineer Christensen, Anders |

Set on the north coast of Zealand in Denmark, the building incorporates an artist’s studio that can be divided off from the rest of the house. The simple volume is closed to the north, but has an extensively glazed south front. Top-hung louvred elements to the west face can be drawn up to provide additional areas of shading. The single internal space is articulated by a central core that houses sanitary facilities, a kitchenette and two chimneys. Sliding doors allow the house to be divided into four distinct zones: the entrance, living room, kitchen and studio. The building has a steel and timber-frame structure, with the solid core providing additional bracing. The walls are lined internally with birch-veneered sheets and clad externally with larch boarding.
