By locating this development in an industrial zone on the outskirts of the city, it was easier tointegrate the great bulk of the building into the urban fabric. Immediately behind the street front are access routes that lead to a series ofsmaller spaces for production and post-production purposes. The large studio is situated to the rear. The broad glazed opening in the street face – a reference to the format of a cinema screen – affords glimpses of the interior. Depending on the angle of view, the glazing appears reflecting or transparent by day, while at night, internal movements are visible through the outer skin. A row of poplars screens the street front from the summer sun. The building has a steel skeleton frame with concrete block infilling internally and an outer skin of wood-fibre-concrete panels. This simple form of construction, together with the polished floor screeds and the ribbed metal sheeting to the soffits, provides a neutral background for the changing film scenes within.
