Structural system of cantilevered volumes
Designed for a family of five, the house has afloor area of roughly 400m2 and is situated in a park-like landscape. On the ground floor are two studies and a self-contained flat. The living areas are on the upper floor, which affords privacy and a fine view of the lake. The compact, timber-framed primary structure provides the requisite degree of rigidity. By using cellulose-fibre insulation, a greater thermal-storage capacity was achieved than would have been possible with synthetic products. The sound insulation of the floor between the dwellings far exceeds standard requirements. To avoid stresses in the large window areas, structural deflection had to beminimized in the cantilevered volumes of the building.
