As part of an exhibition of modern art, the Place Furstemberg underwent a temporary transformation. The square was turned into a pink installation – an object of art and a meeting place. The area was covered with a separating layer of pimpled sheeting. Chairs, tables and other objects were fixed to plastic boards laid on the ground, and the entire installation was coated with plaster of Paris, with a further layer of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic applied on top. Finally, everything was painted pink. The 2.5mm covering layer was drawn up lamp posts and the trunks of trees to a height of 2.50m, taking care to leave adequate space around the latter and to provide openings for water to reach the roots. After the exhibition in Paris, this “exterior dining room” was cut into segments and reassembled in the French pavilion at the Biennale in Venice.
