The “Schaulager” represents a new type of exhibition building in which the top three storeys are given over to the compact and climatically controlled storage of large bulky artworks, like plastics and room installations. This allows improved access for restorers and scientists alike.
The predominantly closed façades of rough brown concrete, reminiscent of clay walling, are quite spectacular - the entry being made inviting by its full height, white façades and two large LED screens presenting pre-recorded works.
