Industrial Building – Industrial Culture

discussion    p. 912 - 913
Author Kaltenbach, Frank |

Dingy, run-down factories would seem to be a thing of the past, at least in the "Western" world. Marketing strategists, clients and architects are all agreed that industrial buildings should form part of corporate design. Concepts of how to translate a company's philosophy into architecture are as varied as the companies themselves. A hundred-metre-long polished facade becomes a work of art. Elevated walkways that link the administration and the logistics centre of a firm are conceived as exciting compositions. Industrial buildings are no longer unattractive, bread-and-butter assignments for architects. They present an opportunity to improve corporate and building culture; and this opportunity is increasingly being taken.
