Section 1:750
Situated north of Vienna in Austria’s largest winegrowing region, this estate has been turned into a theme park for the promotion of wine. The development comprises three sections – wine cellars, a visitors’ centre, and an as yet unfinished hotel. The underground wine cellars are also a tour d’art, with water, light and sound installations. To lend the visible cubic form of the visitors’ centre a more dramatic quality, the walls and roof were set on the rake at an angle of 5°. With its gleaming aluminium facade, cork-lined ceilings and walls, and green glass internally over the windows, the centre also makes an oblique reference to a wine bottle – just one of the many allusions to viniculture to be found in this scheme.
