Namba Parks Shopping Mall in Osaka

typology    p. 180 - 181
Architect The Jerde Partnership | Structural Engineer Obayashi Corporation |

One of the most impressive shopping centres in Osaka is situated on the site of a former baseball stadium. Stepped terraces and facades rising to a height of 42 m mediate between the traditional two-storey developments in the area and a new high-rise block on an adjoining site. Following a figure-of-eight course, the shopping route snakes its way in an east-west direction between various amenities and leisure areas. Complemented by restaurants, cafés and small stages, the mall is a meeting point for young and old.
