A new research and development centre for optical network solutions has been created in Meiningen, Thuringia. Set within a large glazed enclosure, the complex consists of a series of two-storey tracts (with galleries on the upper level), extending in comb-like form from the head structure and alternating with linear atria. Large monopitch lantern roofs over the atrium spaces lend the building its striking appearance and allow a great amount of diffuse light to enter from the north, at the same time ensuring non-glare conditions.
