Light in the Tunnel – the New Metro in Copenhagen

discussion    p. 628 - 632
Author Liese, Julia |

Plans for an electrical underground rail circle line had existed in Copenhagen since 1902, its realization, however, required 100 years. The first section was finally opened on October 19th, 2002, servicing eleven stations and having been built over a period of six years. The majority of the underground network is now completed and transports 100,000 commuters daily. After early technical difficulties had been resolved, the Metro established itself and is now as integral a part of Copenhagen as the little Mermaid and the Tivoli Gardens.
