A Critical View: Modernism in a Landscape Setting - Langen Foundation Museum in Neuss

report    p. 1436 - 1438
Architect Ando, Tadao | Frey, Joachim | Author Weiß, Klaus-Dieter | Structural Engineer Ingenieurbüro J. Heibges |

Opened at the beginning of September 2004 on the site of a former NATO rocket station and next to the Hombroich Museum island in Neuss, Germany, the Langen Foundation's exhibition hall can be seen as a work of art in its own right. In the client's words, "Tadao Ando has created a wonderful sculpture", a new museum that is not transmuted into an entertainment park à la Guggenheim. In its puristic concrete and glass form, the museum makes its mark on the location, which is now also enlivened by the presence of artists of various disciplines as well as scientific institutions.
