The masts of Calatrava's bridges rise emblematically into the sky along the Hoofdvaart Canal. The three bridges he has built there meet specific needs in each situation. At the same time, they form a design unity and create a unique image in the area. The different angles of inclination of the masts and the layout of the stays establish a richly varied play of forms reminiscent of musical instruments.
