The Balcony Is Dead. Long Live the Loggia? New Facades in Housing

typology    p. 162 - 165
Author Kaltenbach, Frank |

A high-quality outdoor space is one of the most important features of any dwelling. The balcony has long been a classic example of this, but the desire for a realm removed from prying eyes, the rediscovery of the urban qualities of an uninterrupted facade and the fact that recessed spaces do not cast shadows as balconies do help to explain why the loggia is gaining in favour. Many of these factors play a role in the housing schemes in the present issue of “Detail”.
