Lightweight construction and systems

discussion    p. 756 - 762
Author Bock, Thomas |

The building industry is in desperate need of international standards in order to create more versatile and flexible constructions.
The goals should be to construct in an environmentally intelligent manner, with due consideration to the world’s resources and energy reserves, and to limit uncontrolled urban spread and reduce financial losses resulting from abandoned structures.
Light-weight construction systems are of particular importance for the industrialised nations; enhancing the restructuring of the entire building economy and encouraging industrial prefabrication of building elements in the factory and on site. In order to assist the building economy out of its present slump it is crucial to align building standards with those of other, comparable industries and to apply the principles of Total Quality Management.
