"Steel is a highly intelligent material" - An interview with Dominique Perrault

discussion    p. 776 - 778
Architect Perrault, Dominique | Author Kaltenbach, Frank |

In 2004 Dominique Perrault won the first international competition for a public building in Russia in 50 years; the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Now, three years later, at the final stage of planning, the project has been withdrawn. The Russian government cites the reasons as being incomplete documentation at the planning application stage. Dominique Perrault presents his side of the situation and enthuses over the generous foyer areas under the folded golden steel net. He also talks of the larger projects which will be completed by his office in the next three years; the Sport Stadium in Rouen, the Olympic Tennis Centre in Madrid, a Campus in Seoul and the complete renovation and extension of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
