Located in a 19th-century housing block, a 23 m2 shop with an adjoining dwelling was converted for the presentation of belts. In addition to creating a sales area, space was made for talking to customers, for office work and for storing materials. The belt was taken as a design theme: the walls are clad with horizontal bands of white MDF sheeting. The curved elements were prefabricated. Projections and recesses in this strip-like structure accommodate various functions, such as illuminated display areas, the steps leading up to the dwelling – which also serve as seating – and a work table formed by a protruding section of the wall. The various elements were glued, smoothed and painted on site.
