Sea Bath in Kastrup

The aim was to design a sculptural structure that would be visible from land, sea and air. Reached via a 100-metre causeway, the wooden bathing platform is supported by 150 piles and seems to hover over the Baltic Sea. Describing three quarters of a circle on plan, the platform rises continuously and ends in a five-metre-high diving point. An area of nearly 900 m2 is provided for visitors, with various leisure and bathing facilities. The simple structure provides protection against the wind, yet opens towards the shore to capture the evening sun. The complex was built with red ironwood, which is resistant to salt water and has roughly the same life as steel. At night, the structure is illuminated by floor spots.
