House in Andalue

documentation    p. 634 - 638
Architect Pezo von Ellrichshausen Arquitectos | Structural Engineer German Aguilera |

Under normal circumstances, the gross floor area of this house in Chile, with three full storeys, would exceed local limits. A number of voids were created, therefore, that link the various levels. Clad with corrugated, bronze-painted aluminium-zinc sheeting, the flush facade is articulated solely by the dark roof strip and the large, irregularly set window openings. Daylight thus enters the partly double-height living spaces from various angles. Only three different cross-sections were used for the simple steel structure, which projects out conically on the long faces, exploiting the developable footprint of the small site to the full. Accommodated here between the living
spaces and the outer skin, are circulation, sanitary and storage areas, which also serve to increase internal privacy. Only at the terrace does the house open to the outdoor world.
