From Infrastructure to Leisure Culture: Parks Created over Traffic Routes
discussion p. 1386 - 1394Author Hubertus Adam |
The trend towards deindustrialisation offers major potential for new urban developments; erstwhile inner city harbours, as well as tram or train constructions which are no longer needed for their original intension, lay disused and free for new plans. At the same time, anomalies from a time of uninhibited mass mobility need to be corrected: destroying or building over motorways may be costly, but it is – as many contemporary examples show – a benefit for both the city and the landscape. Overall, one can see that urban renewal strategies are clearly less influenced from formal architectural principles in comparison to most contemporary landscape architecture.
