Loam Roofs for Mali
discussion p. 13 - 16Author Emilio Caravatti |
The Republic of Mali, a landlocked nation in Western Africa, is one of the poorest countries in the world with an economic system that’s barely able to stay afloat. A large section of its population has no access to water, health care and education. The projects presented here are part of a multidisciplinary architectural programme initiated by the Africabougou association, an Italian not-for-profit organisation. Support will be given to savannah villages north of the capital Bamako in the Beledougou region. Alongside improving living standards, the main aim is to construct schools and other public buildings, and – as part of this – to guide and support the villagers, the future occupants, within the individual building projects.
