Concert Hall in Raiding

Franz Liszt was born in Raiding, a small town in Burgenland, Austria. In his honour, a concert hall was built, with capacity for around 600 visitors. Hidden behind the walls and trees of a small park, the white surfaces of this building gleam in a reserved tribute to the local plaster facades. In this instance it is sprayed plastic and not plaster that creates the modern version of this traditional structure. A five-centimetre-thick Perspex pane connects the foyer seamlessly with the park. The concert hall itself is covered in spruce wood. The wooden infill of the coffers is curved subtly. This modern interpretation of the decorative elements of baroque columns offers an acoustically optimised resonating body, giving the music of Franz Liszt the perfect pitch and tone.
