Complaining about a lack of money for architecture is more or less the most counter-productive argument for our situation. If we cannot build economically, we are consigning ourselves to the arguments from opponents of dedicated architecture. The question of economical construction can only be answered by displaying sustainability and resource management. Any other approach would be too frivolous for our planet and our direct descendants would end up suffering the consequences.
Buildings have the genuine property of being able to live longer than their payback period. They are an integral part of the environment, whether they burden or improve it. And this brings us to the key issue: if you reduce construction in the realm of habitation down to its quantifiable components, you incur a multiple of aggravation and costs, more than the apparent benefit at the start amounts to.
