With its brick construction, the present development exploits one of the dominant materials of the district. Similarly, the precast concrete window surrounds are a reinterpretation of local historical details like oriels. Although certain elements of the construction are aligned with the adjoining roads, sections of the external walls are set at an angle. These changes of alignment called for special brick forms at the intersections. Sunlight falling diagonally on the walls creates a fascinating sculptural effect, articulating the building into three segments. In overcast conditions, the block appears as a uniform whole, not least because the joints and precast concrete elements have the same red colour as the bricks.
