Due to the building’s poor condition and a drop in attendance, the congregation considered having it torn down and building a smaller replacement. The architects’ preliminary studies concluded that paring down the existing nave was a more apt approach. With the space won, a new public square was created for the community amidst the urban ensemble consisting of campanile, fellowship centre and scaled-down church. The new wall on the edge of this square is representative of the overall effect. It not only encloses the side of the building, but also tells a story by incorporating imprints of elements that were removed. On one end, the major space culminates in an existing stained-glass window.
