Owners of large high-rise office buildings have always had to find a balance between image and cost. The same constraints and concerns apply decades later when the time comes to bring those buildings up to modern standards of energy efficiency. Two prime examples, from the very top of the refurbishment market, are the Empire State Building in New York and the Deutsche Bank’s twin high-rises in Frankfurt.
