On 12 January 2009 the Deutsches Gütesiegel für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB, German Sustainable Building Certification) was awarded to sixteen administration and office buildings in a pilot phase. The Paul-Wunderlich-Haus in Eberswalde received the highest mark within that certification (at 1.18, aligned with the ¬German school marking system, 1 being high and six being low), qualifying as one of six for a Gold certificate. This makes the council offices of the district of Barnim the most sustainable of all office buildings so far certified in Germany – and without doubt one of the most sustainable within Europe.
