digitalSTROM: Building automation using high-voltage technology

Research and practice    p. 49 - 51
Author Richard Staub |

Building automation is becoming an increasingly important aspect in the design of green buildings, in particular because of the energy-efficiency improvements this can bring. In order to exploit these benefits to the full the subject of automation has to be given early consideration in the design process.
New technology is needed to improve the current situation. And this is where digitalSTROM comes in: a way of linking electrical ¬appliances together and, via an Internet interface, with the ¬overall system and external services. As this technology is based on the existing electricity network, digitalSTROM is suitable not only for new buildings, but, importantly, for existing ones. No walls need to be ripped open, no new cables laid.
