Sustainable use of materials: wood and wood-based products
Research and practice p. 56 - 59Author Joost Hartwig | Martin Zeumer | Viola John |
In almost all areas of building, wood and wood-based materials are regarded as a „sustainable“ product, for many reasons. The many applications for wood, and the diversity of constructions and building methods employed testify to a long tradition of building in wood. Wood is also generally a cost-effective material, lending itself to prefabrication, easy processing and resource-saving methods of building. In addition, thanks to its thermal properties and the way it responds to moisture, wood has a positive effect on indoor air quality.
