The historic Mariatal monastery campus, situated adjacent to a mountain stream in an idyllic valley in Tyrol, has been home to this school since 1971. Structures dating to the 1950s and 1970s were demolished; the main building was retained, and two new buildings (which house the dormitory, classrooms and therapeutic pool) were added. The ensemble – connected via glazed circulation nodes – opens onto a shared courtyard. The openings in the reinforced-concrete facades alternate between French doors with glazed balustrades and square windows with broad, golden frames. First the load-bearing concrete elements were cast in place, and then reinforced concrete slabs were suspended from them.
