Environmentally Sustainable Housing: Standards and Innovation

discussion    p. 122 - 128
Author Holger Wolpensinger | Wolfgang Rid |

There is currently a change of perspective taking place in the world of sustainable housing construction: plans are not just being considered in terms of individual buildings, rather with an eye on residential area and urban planning, including ecological, social and economical factors. Important elements include energy efficiency, mobility, the use of ecological materials, environmentally friendly supply and disposal systems, natural landscape architecture and economical construction.

Without urban planners and architects, who can deal with the varied topic of residential area development, both the aims and requirements of sustainable construction remain unfulfilled. With models and drafts, urban planners and architects are able to display their intentions and offer advice to individual private families or developers to promote sustainable housing construction.
