To divide the children’s room in a Paris flat into two areas, the architects inserted a furnishing unit that forms a partition and incorporates a raised bed and play facilities. The room-height element is 2.96 ≈ 1.28 m on plan and has a virtually smooth rear face, whereas the front, with a table, shelves, steps for sitting, storage recesses and stairs, can be used for climbing, hiding away, painting and other activities. When the sliding doors are closed, the younger child can sleep in the space to the rear, while the older daughter can continue to play on the other side. The unit consists of 20 mm medium-density fibreboard on a timber-frame construction. Fixed to floor and ceiling, it can be simply removed as required.
