Le Corbusier was arguably the most influential architect in the propagation of the flat roof during the early modern movement. The discussion whether a roof should be flat or pitched however, belongs to the past. Flat or pitched, roofs can do much more than just finish a space or provide weather protection. This issue presents some of these alternatives; the roof as a terrace or garden space, solar power station, or even a place for building extensions and increasing urban density.
