That energy efficiency need not conflict with architectural quality can be seen in many positive examples today (a number of which are contained in this issue) like highly efficient buildings and schools, as well as larger housing complexes. While higher energy standards alone are no guarantee of architectural quality, architects take their responsibility beyond aesthetics - society requires them to be concerned about the energy consumption of their buildings.
